                                    Yatton 3rd’s  24     Weston s Mare 3rd’s   7

This result was sweet revenge for Yatton 3rd’s who narrowly lost at Weston earlier in the year.

The traditional heavy Weston pack were again present, but on this occasion the Yatton eight were their match in set scrum pieces they controlled the line-outs  through the jumping of Matt Gooding and Tom Rowe.

Yatton went ahead early in the match through a Stef Vaughn penalty, with the first try being scored by Tom Rowe who supported a front row drive from John McKay and Dave Upperton. Vaughn added the conversion.

The young Weston centre caused Yatton some difficulties with his elusive running but when their try came it was the result of a slack midfield pass by Yatton, eagerly grasped by Weston for a run in from 40 yards, gifting them seven points against the run of play.

Turning around at 10- 7 the second half produced some determined play from both sides, but scoring was denied by strong defences.  The Yatton eight gradually took over as the Weston eight tired and a good scrummage on a Weston put in forced the ball loose for an alert Adam Noble to pick up and score. Vaughn’s conversion took the Yatton score to 17 and they were in control of the game.

An excellent three quarter move brought the mercurial Nick Clifton, (the Yatton legend playing his first game of the season) into the line, and he ghosted past three defenders to score beneath the posts, giving Stef Vaughn the easiest of kicks.

Yatton would have gone on to increase their lead had the game not been stopped ahead of time owing to a blood injury to Yatton’s young Matt Gooding. This untimely accident marred an afternoon’s good rugby enjoyed by both sides, but fortunately he recovered quickly after hospital treatment.
