Yatton RFC
26th November
2005
Yatton 3rd’s 22 Old
Reds 3rd’s 15
An unfortunate injury to Yatton prop Martin Dixon in the first few minutes necessitated uncontested scrums which was to the detriment of the strong Old Reds pack, but they were the first to score in a well taken try by their quick running centre.
Yatton came straight back into the game with a try
from Colt Ollie Noble which was converted by an excellent kick from Stef
Vaughan.
From forward pressure in loose play Chris Hook won
the ball and it came back to Stef Vaughan who deftly dropped a goal to put
Yatton further ahead, to some extent against the run of play. Vaughan followed
that just before the half break with a penalty.
It was the Old Reds centre who again came thorough
for a well taken try to keep them well in the game, but Vaughan’s boot again
pushed Yatton ahead with another penalty.
Vaughan was in fine form with his kicking as from
another ruck close to Red’s line, a long pass gave him time to drop another
goal. Reds returned with a push over try
and were still pushing strongly when Vaughan dropped yet another goal to give
Yatton a hard earned win against a strong Reds XV.
Had it not been for the kicking form of Stef Vaughan
and some determined last ditch defence Yatton would not have recorded this win
