YATTON 8 TAUNTON 27

Yatton held no fear against table-topping Taunton and this was a fiercely-fought contest.

After 15 minutes, Yatton were penalised for not releasing the ball, giving Saunders the first three points for the visitors.

Taunton's number eight Raratabu broke through with a strong run to score the first try in the 20th minute, Saunders converting.

Both sides played an entertaining style, with quick attacking passing and committed defence.

When Taunton were penalised for not releasing the ball, Tony Hill took the opportunity to kick Yatton's first three points.

Taunton then took full advantage of a missed knock-on in their back-line and moved the ball well for Martin to score the try, again converted by the talented Saunders.

At the beginning of the second half, Bill Osborne set up the attack for the home side with an excellent burst through the Taunton line, setting up his backs at speed, and full-back Alan Walters scored a well-deserved try.

Yatton's captain Nick Garnham kept his team's chances alive with some clever passing, sending his backs off on some exciting attacks, but the Taunton defence was too strong.

Taunton's man of the match Raratabu was at hand when the strong pack pushed over for a try.

Yatton's man of the match was hooker Matt Johnson. Osborne was voted by the players as their outstanding player.

On Saturday, Yatton travel to second-placed Avonmouth Old Boys for a double-header league and Combination Cup match.
