‘Yatton use
skills to gain win’.
Newton Abbot’s first ever visit to Yatton got off to a 15 minute delayed start when the second XV game referee had to be urgently drafted in to replace the non-arrival.
Fifteen minutes into the game,
Yatton’s No6 Nic Spellissy
took quick advantage of ‘foot up’ in the scrum to outpace defenders from the
midfield. Tony Hill converted. During the remainder of the half Yatton were made to contend with
Shortly after Yatton lost two players to the sin bin within minutes of each other but managed to hold out to lead 7-6 at halftime.
Fly-half Tony Hill’s midfield chip over, catch and race for the touchline showed his developing skills. His conversion from out wide gave the home side some breathing space in the score line at 50 minutes.
Minutes later it was the visitors’ turn to receive a yellow card.
During the last quarter both
sides traded converted tries. Captain Chris Harris broke through to ground
beneath the posts for Yatton and minutes before the
whistle centre Ben Scott broke against the run of play from
Individual skills and ability in the scrum, especially during the second half, saw Yatton achieve this win but team cohesion was missing and some places seemed apparently to show lack of commitment.
