Yatton were given a competitive match right from the kick-off. Despite having advantage of the wind Yatton went behind by a penalty in the opening minutes having committed basic errors.

Old C’s then resisted Yatton’s attacking pressure for the next 15 minutes and then managed to creep up the touchline only to see their penalty conversion opportunity fly wide.

At 25 minutes centre Mike Harris broke through for Yatton finishing off a 5 yard scrum. Sam Osborne converted.

Immediately at the restart Captain Courageous Chris Harris collected the ball and broke through. Excellent handling in midfield resulted in Osborne running behind the posts to give himself an easy conversion.

Throughout the match scrum play was fairly even with Old C’s tricky tactics remaining unchecked on the oppositions put in. An injury to a Yatton prop-forward caused them to dig deep for a replacement who proved to be more than equal to the task.

Four minutes into the second half Osborne converted a penalty after Old C’s had a player yellow carded.

At 50 minutes wing Pete Lynch made no mistake in finishing off Yatton’s midfield attack to bring the score to 22-3.

Old C’s spirit never faltered and belies their bottom of the table position. They continued to test Yatton’s defence and their reward came when Yatton succumbed to a soft try beneath the posts with 5 minutes to go.

This Saturday Yatton’s 1st XV travel to Thornbury who are currently one League win behind their visitors.
