From the kick-off Yatton allowed themselves to be put under pressure. Within the first three minutes Walcot were on the scoreboard with a converted try.
Yatton clawed back in to contention with a penalty but allowed Walcot an overlap giving them a touchdown in the corner.
Another Yatton penalty retrieved some difference on the half hour but again seconds later a basic mistake of failing to gather the ball from Walcot’s penalty conversion attempt which flew wide allowed following up player Andy Van Roy to dive on the ball and give Walcot another easy try and conversion.
The score was 6-19 at half time.
Yatton’s failure to make effective tackles allowed Walcots illusive backline to push their score further in front with yet another try and conversion.
However Yatton’s forwards play was solid enough in all aspects and a quickly taken penalty saw Sam Osborne follow up the break, ground the ball and convert.
Unfortunately minutes later a questionable interception in open play gave Walcot’s winger the chance to show his pace and put his team score on 13-31.
Yatton battled on and with 15 minutes to go Nick Garnham’s individual try from the base of the scrum and conversion by Osborne kept them still on the boil.
But Yatton found themselves again playing on the day with no luck on their side when in injury time Walcot’s other winger received an attempted clearance kick and ran unopposed through a tired defence.
Yatton 1st XV have some respite this Saturday
only to face undefeated Cheltenham North away on the following Saturday 3rd
December.
