Yatton’s only Western Counties North win away so far this season was their very first game.

North Bristol however, were keen to step up from the bottom of the league and repeat the win similiarly placed Avonmouth had achieved in Yatton’s previous away fixture.

North Bristol were prepared and fired up from the kick-off, scoring a converted try by the uprights in the fourth minute.

With a strong cross wind to contend with, but having domination in the scrums and forcing errors from Yatton in the line-outs, North Bristol pinned their visitors in their half for practically all of the first half.

Frantic defence and clean marking of the ball saved Yatton further embarrassment.

North Bristol’s first half injury time brought the score to 10-0 and even with a player yellow carded, they still managed to increase their lead with a penalty after 50 minutes.

But Yatton were now managing to balance the scrums and co-ordinate their own mauls. Captain Chris Harris’s grounding of the ball from a drive five minutes later gave some confidence.

Yatton always looked good and fast in open play but they were starved of the ball not only by the opposition but also by their own mistakes.

As the clock ticked away, North Bristol held their ground even though they were reduced to 14 men.

Yatton’s wrong options mounted and desperate measures reduced their numbers to 14 players also.

With five minutes to go, North Bristol’s speculative penalty kick from well within their own half dissected the uprights to put the result beyond doubt.

Set pieces seem to be Yatton’s weakness at present which is leading to overly complicated play and giving away penalty chances
