Yatton RFC

7th January 2006

                                                Yatton 3rd’s   26  --  Bristol Harlequins 3rd’s   12

The first quarter was evenly matched after Yatton had loaned Quins a couple of players, but when John ‘Geordie’ Wetherall broke from the back row the ball was worked well by the support to allow Chris Hook to burst through the defence for the first score.  Stef Vaughan added the conversion.

Young Chris Hook featured in the second score when he made good ground with another strong burst and made the ball available to move through the backs for winger Mike Plimmer to finish off a good move.

Harlequins reacted strongly shortly after, when they chased a charge down to get a try to narrow the score line just on half time.

The second half started well for Yatton when Adam Noble cut through the Quins defence and the ruck ball was moved to Stef Vaughan who took it forward before releasing a scoring pass to   the prominent Geordie Wetherall. Vaughan again added extra points.

The fast improving Greg Lewis started the move for Yatton’s next try when he followed his own kick ahead and good movement through the backs gave newcomer winger Tony Wild the opportunity to score on his debut performance for Yatton.

Harlequins had the final say when Yatton’s loan player, colt Stuart Brain, scored an individual try by proving he was the fastest player on the park.

Yatton 3rd’s have started 2006 in the same winning vein as they finished 2005 with their blend of young players with a few older experienced heads. Art Sims led the latter with the younger Aaron Summons, Dave Rogers and Chris Hook providing the enthusiasm and pace.

The support from the touchline of the inspirational Nick Clifton undoubtedly added to the motivation of Yatton’s Trojans.

Scorers:

Tries: Geordie Wetherall, Mike Plimmer, Chris Hook, Tony Wild
